About the area

Vilma tells about the neighborhood: "A neighborhood to visit, between nostalgia and memories. It's near the historic center of Plaza de Mayo, with buildings of old Buenos Aires. There is the Casa Rosada, the Cabildo, the Cathedral and other colonial churches. It is a neighborhood with cultural and tourist attractions, with nearby theaters, museums, fairs, nightlife in restaurants and bars. It's an area with a lot of activity, traveled by people who live, work and visit (tourists). The house has a good location, since it has access to public transport to get around the city. It is a few blocks away from the subway lines, two blocks from the 9 de Julio metrobus (emblematic avenue of the city) where 11 bus lines circulate joining Constitución and Retiro. Towards the other side, you will find the Metrobus of the Bajo de Paseo Colón where 30 bus lines circulate connecting Retiro and the south of the city, encouraging the connection between the different means of transport (subways, trains, buses and eco bikes) communicating the neighborhoods of Retiro, Puerto Madero, San Telmo and pedestrian Microcentro."

San Telmo is an area that includes some of the oldest parts of the city and it is one of Buenos Aires' most traditional neighborhoods. It was originally inhabited by members of the Argentine high society, but it was abandoned in 1871 due to the yellow fever outbreak and some of its beautiful mansions were transformed into the famous conventillos (tenements). Nowadays, San Telmo stands out for its antique and avant-garde, vintage shops, its tango culture, its restaurants with unique styles, its squares and narrow cobblestone streets, where many visitors choose to rent rooms. One of the favourite touristic place is Plaza Dorrego, where there is a famous antiques fairing, shops and tango shows on week-ends.

Nowadays, San Telmo stands out for both, its antique and avant-garde shops, its tango culture, its restaurants with unique styles, and its squares and narrow cobblestone streets where many visitors choose to rent rooms. You can find rooms in old buildings and large, well-lit vintage houses with high ceilings.
